A friend Keyo was recently telling me about an era of outdoor gear when all outerwear was made in bright colors so you could be easily spotted by rescue searchers when lost in the mountains. As technical gear evolved from only being used in extreme conditions to being worn in cities and every day life, there was a brief period where outerwear was made with neutral colors on the outside, but still had bright colors on the inside so if, in fact you did find your self in the mountains in need of rescue you could turn the item inside out and be spotted more easily. That story is why this hat exists.
